The VOLK Diesel Platform Truck DFW 3 can be option-
ally equipped with a compressed air supply
system for pneumatically braked trailers.
The compressed air for the trailers is provided by two valves at the rear end of the vehicle. Two hose connec-
tions are required for this: a red supply line which is used to supply
the trailer constantly with air and a yellow brake line which is responsible for controlling the braking of the trailer.
The compressed air supply system can be switched on
via a rocker switch in the driver’s cab when
pneumatically braked trailers are hitched. In this case, a compressor driven by the vehicle’s diesel engine generates com-
pressed air which is stored temporarily in a pressure ac-
cumulator. The pressure is automatically
controlled by the system and can be read off an gage in the driver’s cab at all times. Operation of the compressor is indicated by a control lamp.
