VOLK Diesel Platform Trucks are also ideal for baggage
handling on airports. Particularly on regional airports, where there are mostly only smaller aircraft with comparatively few passengers, the spacious load platform of the vehicle is, in most cases, entirely sufficient for the transport of
pieces of luggage. Only rarely are more than one or two baggage trailers required here. Heavy tow tractors weighing three or four tons, which are the status quo at larger airports, are therefore not required for regional air traffic.
In addition, the baggage handling areas at smaller airports are usually characterized by an open construction, so that driving into them with a combustion engine driven vehicle is an unproblematic option. Consequently, diesel vehicles
can play off their particular strengths here: In comparison to purely electrically driven vehicles, they are particularly characterized by a practically unlimited driving range and the absence of complex battery management; and in
comparison to technologically sophisticated hybrid vehicles, the distinctly lower initial cost presents a particularly significant benefit.
Due to these advantages, today VOLK Diesel Platform Trucks are in operation on a multitude
of regional airports – for instance on the airports in Innsbruck, Saarbrücken and Friedrichshafen.
