The VOLK Diesel Tow Tractor DFZ 50 H can be optionally equipped with a compressed air supply system
for pneu-
matically braked trailers.
The compressed air for the trailers is provided by two valves at the rear end of the vehicle. Two hose connec-
tions are required for this: a red supply line which is used to supply the
trailer constantly with air and a yellow brake line which is responsible for controlling the braking of the trailer.
The compressed air supply system can be switched on
via a rocker switch in the driver’s cab when
pneumatically braked trailers are hitched. In this case, a compressor driven by the vehicle’s diesel engine generates compress-
ed air which is stored temporarily in a pressure accumu-
lator. The pressure is automatically controlled by the sys-
tem and can be read off an gage in the driver’s cab at all times. Operation of the compressor is indicated by a con-
trol lamp.
